From a residents' family - Grimston Court

"It was clear by looking at the external and internal environment that this was the place for mum. It really has the wow factor" - Erica Taylor

Looking for a care home for a loved one can be a painful time for everyone concerned.

The elderly person who requires residential care is often, understandably, reluctant to leave his or her own home and this can put a tremendous strain on the family members involved in the search for a care home.

But in Erica Taylor’s case, her mother Gwendoline Cawte made the decision much easier for her by giving an immediate personal seal of approval to the home her daughter had found.

That home was Grimston Court, which Erica had identified after reading the good Care Quality Commission report and then visiting the home.

She says: “I was initially looking for some urgent respite care for my mother over Christmas and when I looked around Grimston Court I was impressed immediately. I was treated very well by the staff and it was clear by looking at both the external and internal environment that this was the place for Mum. It really has the wow factor.

“I was extremely relieved I had found somewhere so welcoming and when my mother came in she liked it immediately, which was a great relief. My brother and sister both visit Grimston and are very pleased with me for finding just the right place for our mother.

“Eventually, Mum’s stay at Grimston has become permanent and I am so glad she had a say in the home she wanted to live in as owing to her worsening dementia, this is not something she would have been able to do now.

“Grimston is perfected located for us to visit her, as well as her having visits from the friends she made where she used to live. The diet is varied, the food is delicious and there are so many activities in which the residents may take part if they wish.”
